Stem Length

Stem length is measured from the center of the steerer tube clamp to the center of the handlebar clamp. A shorter stem generally results in a more upright riding position and quicker steering, while a longer stem offers a more aggressive, stretched-out posture and more stable steering. Consider your riding style and typical terrain when choosing length.

Stem Angle (Rise)

Stem angle, often expressed in degrees, determines the height of your handlebars relative to the saddle. A positive rise (upward angle) creates a more relaxed, upright position, ideal for casual riding or alleviating back strain. A negative rise (downward angle) or a zero-degree rise leads to a lower, more aerodynamic position favored by racers and performance-oriented cyclists.

Material and Weight

Bike stems are commonly made from aluminum or carbon fiber. Aluminum stems offer a good balance of strength, durability, and affordability. Carbon fiber stems are significantly lighter and can help absorb road vibrations, but they come at a higher price point and require careful installation.
