How to Choose the Best Blank Note Cards
Consider Cardstock Weight and Quality
The weight of the cardstock, often measured in pounds (lb) or grams per square meter (gsm), significantly impacts the feel and durability of your note cards. Heavier cardstock (e.g., 80 lb cover or 216 gsm) feels more premium and is less likely to bend or tear. Look for acid-free and archival-quality paper, which prevents yellowing over time and is ideal for important correspondence or keepsakes.
Explore Styles and Sizes
Blank note cards come in various styles, from classic white or cream to colored and patterned designs. Consider the occasions you'll use them for. Standard sizes, like A2 (4.25 x 5.5 inches) or A7 (5 x 7 inches), are common and fit easily into standard envelopes. Some sets also include matching envelopes, which is a convenient bonus.
Think About the Finish and Texture
The finish of the cardstock can affect its appearance and how well it accepts writing or printing. Common finishes include:
Matte: Offers a non-reflective surface, easy to write on with most pens.
Linen: Features a subtle texture resembling fabric, adding a touch of elegance.
Glossy: Has a shiny surface, often used for photographic prints but can be harder to write on.
Choose a finish that suits your personal aesthetic and writing preferences.
Evaluate Packaging and Quantity
Note cards are typically sold in packs ranging from a few dozen to hundreds. Consider how frequently you'll use them to determine the best quantity for your needs. Well-packaged sets protect the cards from damage during storage and transport.
