How to Choose the Best Craps Sets
Choosing the Right Dice
Material: Most professional dice are made from cellulose acetate or acrylic, offering precision and balance. Look for dice that are transparent or opaque and have sharp edges for accurate rolls.
Accuracy: Precision-milled dice are crucial for fair play. Ensure the dice are balanced and have a non-porous surface to prevent tampering and ensure consistent performance.
Size and Weight: Standard casino dice measure 16mm (5/8 inch) and have a weight of approximately 2.5 ounces. Smaller sets are available for home use, but consider the feel and handling.
Felt Layouts and Accessories
Material and Size: Felt layouts are typically made from wool or a synthetic blend. Consider the size to ensure it fits your gaming table comfortably and provides ample space for betting.
Design: Many layouts feature printed betting areas, mimicking a casino floor. Some offer reversible designs or additional features like drink holders or chip trays.
Accessories: A complete set may include a dice cup or shaker, a brush for cleaning the felt, and sometimes even betting chips. These additions can enhance the overall gaming experience.
Storage and Maintenance
Storage: Invest in a durable case or box to protect your dice and felt from damage and dust. Proper storage ensures the longevity of your set.
Maintenance: Regularly clean your felt layout with a soft brush or lint roller. Inspect dice for any chips or imperfections that could affect their accuracy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the essential components of a craps set?
A standard craps set typically includes a set of precision dice, a felt layout with betting markings, and often a dice cup or shaker. Some sets may also come with betting chips or a brush for cleaning.
How important is the material of the dice?
The material is very important as it affects the balance and accuracy of the roll. Cellulose acetate and acrylic are common choices for their precision and durability, ensuring fair gameplay.
What size should the craps dice be?
