How to Choose the Best Female Condoms
Storage and Shelf Life
Store female condoms in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid keeping them in a wallet or glove compartment for extended periods, as heat can degrade the material. Always check the expiration date before use to ensure effectiveness.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are female condoms effective?
When used correctly and consistently, female condoms are highly effective at preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Proper insertion and ensuring the condom stays in place during intercourse are key to their effectiveness.
Can I use a female condom with a male condom?
It is not recommended to use a female condom simultaneously with a male condom. This can cause friction and potentially lead to breakage for both condoms, reducing their effectiveness.
How do I insert a female condom?
Gently squeeze the inner ring and insert it into the vagina, pushing it up as far as is comfortable. The outer ring should rest outside the vaginal opening. Instructions can vary slightly by brand, so always refer to the product packaging.
Can female condoms be reused?
No, female condoms are designed for single use only. Reusing a condom can compromise its integrity and effectiveness, and poses a health risk.
What if the female condom slips out of place?
If the condom slips or you are unsure if it stayed in place, it's best to stop and insert a new one. For pregnancy prevention, consider emergency contraception if necessary and consult a healthcare provider.
