How to Choose the Best Nintendo DS Games, Consoles & Accessories
Key Factors When Buying a Nintendo DS Console
Console Model: The original Nintendo DS and DS Lite offer a classic experience. The DSi and DSi XL introduced enhanced features like cameras and a digital store, though some older DS cartridges may not be compatible with the DSi models. Consider screen size, portability, and feature set based on your preferences.
Condition: As these are older consoles, condition is paramount. Look for consoles in good working order with no major cosmetic damage to the screens or casing. Ensure all buttons function correctly and the battery holds a charge. Used consoles often come with varying degrees of wear, so inspect descriptions and photos closely.
Included Accessories: Check if the console comes with essential accessories like a charger, stylus, and potentially a game. Some bundles may offer added value, but prioritize the console's condition and functionality. Ensure any included accessories are genuine Nintendo products for optimal performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL?
The original DS was the first with dual screens and touch input. The DS Lite is a smaller, brighter revision. The DSi and DSi XL added cameras, a digital storefront, and improved processing power, but dropped Game Boy Advance cartridge support.
Are Nintendo DS games still available?
Yes, physical Nintendo DS game cartridges can still be found through various online retailers and used game stores. While the official digital storefronts for the DSi have closed, the vast library of DS games remains accessible via cartridges.
Can I play Nintendo DS games on a 3DS?
Yes, the Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL are backward compatible and can play almost all Nintendo DS and DSi game cartridges. This makes the 3DS a great option if you want to access both DS and 3DS libraries on one device.
What should I look for in a used Nintendo DS console?
Prioritize consoles with fully functional screens, responsive buttons, and a working battery. Check for significant scratches or damage, especially on the hinge and touch screen. Ensure it comes with a charger and stylus for a complete setup.
