DOL starters are the simplest and most common, applying full line voltage directly to the motor. They are suitable for smaller motors or applications where high starting torque is not a concern. Reduced voltage starters, such as wye-delta, autotransformer, or solid-state starters, are used for larger motors to limit inrush current, reduce mechanical stress on the equipment, and minimize voltage dips on the power system.
